Happy Gut = Clear Skin

So I have always believed that if you have problems in your tummy it will show in your face, and now so does everyone else!!

I have always had a keen interest in nutriton for the skin and have followed Patrick Holford for years and recently Dr Michael Mosely – he has a great book out with his wife full of tips and receiptes on a healthy gut. If you suffer from moods, skin rashes, bloating or break outs, have your ever thought that the Microbes in your gut is to blame? Our digestive track is filled with trillions of microscopic bacteria – some friendly and some less friendly. Our personal army of gut bacteria (micro biome) is very important and if this is out of sync then it can affect you many different ways.

Luckily this can be remedied!

So getting back to your personal army, by eating the right foods, adopting a better lifestyle, supplementing with a good quality probiotic – you should be able to reinforce the armies of “Good” bacteria along your digestive tract, building a better defence.

We used to think the job of good bacteria was to protect the gut from invaders –bugs, chemicals and disease that has crept into our foods. Whilst that is true – there has been loads of research in the past few years that not only does the army of bacteria protect the digestive system but it also regulates our immune system!!!

With the rise in processed foods, sugar and wine in our diet we have also seen a rise in skin diseases , like psoriasis, fungal infections, eczema, inflammatory conditions like Crohn’s and IBS. But is also regulates our immune system and morerecently there has also been some evidence that gut bacteria plays a part in influencing our moods.

We need a balance of good and bad bacteria in our gut. The problem is say if you are addicted to processed foods or sugar then the bad bacteria start to dominate your army a bit like Hitler!

WHAT CAN WE DO?

AVOID taking anti biotics if possible

OPEN a window, sounds so simple. This exposes you to different types of bacteria

EAT more greens, or just more vegetables in general

VARY your food, some of us eat the same foods menu’s day in day out and this limit’s our gut bacteria

EAT natural yogurt, kefir, saurerkraut and help your gut thrive –

These are all rich in Fibre, plus don’t forget to drink water.

We can also as an insurance policy add in a Supplement.

My son did something called WORLD CHALLENGE which involved climbing the Himalayas and before he went I put him on some really good probiotics and he took them with him – he was the only lad in his group that didn’t suffer with tummy problems during the two weeks!!

Here is what I recommend and take myself.

Don’t forget our gut governs many functions of our body and houses nearly 70% of the cells that make up our immune system.
